Citation: Barger, R.L. and P.F. Ffolliott. 1976. Factors affecting occurrence of compression wood in individual ponderosa pine trees. Wood Science 8(3):201-208.
Subject: wood product
Vegetation type: Ponderosa Pine
Location: Beaver Creek watersheds
Abstract: Lean, either by itself or in combination with other visual tree characteristics, was an unreliable predictor of compression wood in northern Arizona. Release through thinning or partial cutting may substantially increase incidence of compression wood in trees that respond with increased growth rates.
