Adding A Printer To Active Directory
1. First make sure that the printer works correctly on the local computer it is installed on. Once you have done that, share the printer.
2. From the Domain Controller, navigate to the computer which has the printer attached, and add that printer. This is done by just double-clicking on the printer.
3. On the Domain Controller, open up the Printer control panel. The new printer should be listed here now. Right-click that printer and choose “Properties”.
4. Go to the “Sharing” tab and make sure that the checkmark for “List in Directory” is checked.
5. “OK” back out to the desktop.
By doing this, if someone opens “My Network Places”, then chooses “Entire Network”, they will have an option on the left of the window to “Find Printers” (along with several other “Find” options). If they then click “Find Printers” and then when the search window opens, they click “Find Now” without adding any other information, any printer advertised by Active Directory will be listed, and can be connected to just by double-clicking that printer. It will then be setup on their computer and usable as if it were connected locally.
